CV
Prof. Dr. Sibel OZDOGAN
Dr.
Ozdogan is a full time Professor and Head of Thermodynamics and Thermal Systems
at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Marmara University, Istanbul,
Turkey. She has B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degrees in Chemical Engineering and Ph.D. in
Mechanical Engineering. She has two Professor Degrees, one in Engineering Thermodynamics
and the other one in Physical Chemistry.
Dr.
Ozdogan is a graduate of the Sankt Georg College of Istanbul Turkey and speaks
English and German fluently. After getting her BSc degree at the Istanbul Technical University Dr. Ozdogan was
a Fulbright scholar at the Graduate
School of the University of Colorado –
Boulder where she got her MSc degree . Her first full time job was as a
researcher at the Mechanical and Energy Systems Department of Marmara Research
Center of TUBITAK in Turkey. Later on she has joined Marmara University. She was
a visiting Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Florida – Tampa for
Post-Graduate studies for two semesters. She had/has had extended professional
international contacts with several international research centers/companies
such as CNRS – France, Rheinische Braunkohlenwerke, GSF and Juelich - Germany
and Ansaldo- Italy. She has more than 100 publications in SCI journals and
refereed proceedings and more than 250 citations .
Dr. Ozdogan has acted as a referee for
several international SCI journals, e.g.
Energy, Fuel Processing Technology, Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Energy
sources, Energy and Fuels, Biomass and Bioenergy, International Journal of
Sustainable Transportation etc. She was among the expert reviewers of the IPCC.
She reviewed projects of selected European Universities such as those from the
Limburg University in Belgium. Dr. Ozdogan has evaluated several technological
and innovation driven research projects to be conducted by private industry and
universities as part of the R&D Funding Program of TUBITAK. She has been a
member of national Energy and Climate Change Commissions. Dr. Ozdogan has acted
as an independent expert evaluator and reviewed several European 6th and 7th
frame projects of various energy calls.
She
has been intensively collaborating with the Energy Institute of TUBITAK-MRC
since the 90’s as a consultant and chief senior researcher within the frame of
international and industrial energy R&D and R&D&D projects. Her
research group at the university is primarily dealing with smaller scale basic
and applied research problems while she has the opportunity to deal with pilot
scale and industrial scale projects at TUBITAK-MRC.
Dr.
Ozdogan has more than 25 years of experience in sustainable production and
utilization of energy from biomass, fossil, and waste hydrocarbon resources.
Conversion processes comprise combustion, gasification, pyrolysis and clean-up
and reforming if required.
Co-generation, poly-generation (including fuel cells) and overall energy
and GHG efficient and cost-effective utilization options are sought. Capacities
range from small scale fixed-bed applications to medium to large scale fluidized
bed demonstration units. Innovative approaches are sought in fuel upgrading,
preparation, feeding, conversion and clean-up. Production of hydrogen rich
gases or synthesis gas or secondary and tertiary fuels are among on-going
research topics. Her current research interests in clean coal utilization
technologies cover both IGCCs and zero emission systems. Special emphasize is
given to hydrocarbon fuel upgrading and preparation, fluidized bed combustion
and gasification with special attention on matching fuel properties with
utilization options. Oxy-combustion and oxy-gasification and IGCCs are being
intensively investigated on both experimental and theoretical basis for coal
and/ or biomass and selected residues.
Dr.
Ozdogan has been a board member of the
Marmara University Scientific Research Projects Commission for 6 years. She
also served as a member of the Engineering Faculty Administrative Board and
Faculty Committee.
